Urban Decay All Nighter- Make- up Setting Spray Review

Urban Decay Finishing Spray- Long Lasting

Urban Decay Long Lasting Setting Finishing Spray, promises to make my make- up last all night.  I have seen setting sprays over the years and always thought they were a extra ‘fancy’ step in make- up routines of beauty gurus that wasn’t really needed. However, I hate getting home from a night out or a long day, going to remove my foundation and finding there is hardly anything left to take off, so I decided to enter the world of finishing sprays and see what happened.

I did a bit of research and decided to try this one, I have not had much experience with Urban Decay, I have Naked 1 & 2- which I love,  but have tried nothing else. (I have been hearing a lot of chatter about the Naked concealer though- has anyone tried that?)

The packaging is simple and practical, although quite large which is good and bad- lots of product but not handy for travel. To use you just spray from about 8-10 inches away in a ‘X’ and/or ‘T’ shape, with one spritz per axis.  It is very wet when you spray and it is kinda weird to be honest- much more liquid than  the mist I expected. My first reaction was to look in the mirror to see where my make up had been smudged by it- the answer none of it moved!

It dries really quickly, I had originally wanted the ‘Cooling and Hydrating’ version but when I swatched  at the counter, I found that it took a long time to dry while the ‘All Nighter’ melted to feel like nothing on your skin in seconds.

Was it worth it? This is the only setting spray I have ever tried but….. it did make me make-up last longer as promised.

I would not say that this is an essential step in the make up routine but it is a nice add on, with little time or effort for a good pay off. The product is expensive but I feel given that you use so little each time it will last a while.  Had anyone else tried it?

Sleek Pink Lemonade Blush Trio Review

Sleek Blush

I have heard much chatter about Sleek and particularly their blushes recently.  Blush is an beauty product I have not explored or experimented with that much over the years especially compared to my bulging collection of lip/eye products. This is something I want to change and I thought a Sleek Blush by 3 would be a good starting point.

Sleek Blush- Pink Lemonade

Pink Mint, Macaroon, Icing Sugar

After much deliberation at the Sleek stand, I went for the Pink Lemonade trio, with two  powder blushes and a cream. Love the name of each shade, together they are a wonderful fairground of pink yum. First up there is Icing Sugar, my favourite of the three with a  frosted golden coral pink. Macaroon is the cream blush shade in a classic medium pink. It blends well but be careful in application as it is very easy to apply too much on first application. (although fixing it was pretty easy). Finally, Pink Mint is a beautiful shimmery pink which I really like, but you will see from the swatches it might not be the best of itself against my pale pale skin. It seems to get bit lost against by Scottish whiteness but for work I like a subtle colour. I have layered this colour over the others for a nice effect- adds shimmer and warmth.

Sleek Blush Pink Lemonade Swatches

Package wise it is a nice size for a trio, very portable with a good size mirror which is handy if you are doing your make-up on the move. Overall, this is a great wee trio especially for the price!

What Blush would you recommend for me to try next?

Desert Metals Mascara by teeez Trendy Cosmetics

Desert Metals Mascara

I know I did a mascara review recently but I received this one in my You Beauty Discover box earlier this month and have really been impressed by the Desert Metals Mascara, so wanted to share.

I had never heard of the brand teeez Trend Cosmetics before so wasn’t sure what to expect. The Dutch company promise that this mascara which contains silk proteins which will protect and nourish your lashes. To be honest  I am not sure about these claims- what do you look for to know if it has now more nourished eyelash? Despite this I have been impressed.

IMG_0576

The brush is a cone like shape, small at the tip getting progressively wider. The narrow tip makes it great for easily coating the outer most or inner most lashes. It is an intense black which I felt made my lashes appear longer and fuller. It didn’t create that ‘false lash’ effect but it is perfect for what I want from mascara. It did not smudge, lasted all day and was relatively easy to get off at the end of the day.

You can get this in various colours- I have Midnight Sky which is a strong black.

One sad point is that it is pretty expensive at around £17 and I found it hard to track down a UK stockist but you can get it at nelly.com. Hopefully, the brand will be stocked more widely in the future though as I really liked this product.

Has anyone tried anything else from this brand?

NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss Review

NYX lipgloss

IMG_0436

I picked up this glossy Mega Shine trio when I was in New York last year and they are the only NYX product I have tried so far.  I love the simple packaging topped with a black bow on the lid. The creamy lip gloss glides on easily with a doe- foot applicator. They have a lovely sweet, sugary smell which can be enjoyed during application but doesn’t haunt you for the rest of the day. As far as that annoying lipgloss stickiness goes, these guys don’t have much of it yey!

From Top: Beige, Sugar Pie and Natural

From Top: Beige, Sugar Pie and Natural

The three colours are a great little trio as they are all quite different but all very wearable day-time appropriate with awesome shine. Beige is my favourite. Sugar Pie doesn’t give much colour but with the shine is enough to get noticed, it also works well over a matte lipstick. And Natural looks much better on than it does in the bottle, more red than brown tones when applied.

I have never seen NYX in the UK, but just learned while doing this post that they are stocked in Next! How did I miss this, will have to have  a look next time I am at the shops. What are you favourite NYX products? What should I try next?

I am really getting into Instagram– if you use it let me know wanted to use it to connect with more people- picture says a 1000 word and all that!

My Marc Jacobs Perfume Collection

Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs always draws me in with their lovely smell and gorgeous flower topped perfume bottles. I thought I would share with the Marc Jacobs Perfume Collection I have grown over the last couple years. I am not a huge fan of floral scents so love to the fresh, fruity notes of the Marc Jacobs range.

I have never had a talent for describing scents so have included the notes listed on  the Marc Jacobs website to hopefully give you a fuller appreciation of the smell than my skills would allow.

Daisy by Marc Jacobs

This was the fragrance that started the collection, it was the first thing I bought myself when I was paid from my first ‘proper’ job.  As you can see it is well used. It has a lovely light, fresh and feminine scent which is perfect for everyday. It has a fruity feel without being too sweet.

Top Notes: Strawberry, Violet Leaves
Mid Notes: Violet Petals, Jasmine Bouquet
Base Notes: Musk, Vanilla Infusion

Lola

This was once described to to me as Daisy’s big sister and I think it is a perfect description. It reflects the fresh and fruity notes but is far more sophisticated. I reach for this for nights out and special occasion. It is also one of my favourite bottles, a beautiful slender purple glass topped with a massive flower.

Top Notes: Pink Peppercorn, Pear, Ruby Red Grapefruit
Mid Notes: Peony, Rose, Geranium
Base Notes: Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Musk

Oh, Lola!

A new take on their Lola fragrance, which I found described  as ‘burst open with a bright and whimsical effervescence’. Not sure if that’s what you are looking for in a perfume? It does have raspberry notes which tingle on the nose and make you  think of sunny days.

Top Notes: Pear, Effervescent Raspberry
Mid Notes: Peony, Magnolia, Cyclamen
Base Notes: Sandalwood, Tonka Bean, Vanilla

Oh Lola!, Sunsheer

This is a lighter version of Oh! Lola, but keeps  the same fruity and fresh  elements, another one perfect for daytime. The notes read almost identical  for Oh Lola! and this one but the fragrances are distinct from each other when sprayed.

Top Notes:  Raspberry, Pear and Wild Strawberry
Mid Notes: Magnolia, Peony and Cyclamen
Base Notes: Vanilla, Sandalwood and Tonka Bean.

DOT

This is my least favourite of all the scents. Love the bottle which has  the signature oversized cap. However, I think it has too much Vanilla for me and is heavier than the others in the range. Almost feel it is a little grown up for me, maybe I need to give it another go in the future.

Top Notes:  Red Berries, Dragonfruit, Honeysuckle
Mid Notes: Jasmine, Coconut Water, Orange Blossom
Base Notes:Vanilla, Driftwood, Musk

Marc Jacobs Honey

Honey

The latest addition to my collection- I wasn’t too sure about it to begin with but it has really grown on me. It is a sunny floral with enough of a fresh/fruity smell for me to love it. It does not smell heavily of honey which I had worried about! Another daytime favourite for me.

Top Note – Pear, Juicy Mandarin
Mid Note – Orange Blossom, Peach Nectar, Apricot, Honeysuckle
Base Note – Honey, Golden Vanilla, Smooth Woods

Only negative of this range is that although the bottle of wonderful, they aren’t that great for travelling with the large floor head. But you can easily get around this by decanting some into a travel atomizer or similar. Also to give the bottles their due they are rather hardy- they sit on my chest of drawers and my cat has knocked more than one of them all the way to the wooden floor with thankfully not smashes. Not recommending you drop them but if you do might not be disaster!

Maybelline Colorsensational Shine Gloss

Stellar Berry

coloursensational- Stellar berry

I picked up the Maybelline ColorSensational Shine Gloss is a recent haul. I went for Stellar Berry (360) as I was attracted by its beautiful plum rich red colour. It is vibrant on the lips with a lovely shine.

This lipgloss smells amazing, a lovely clean fruity scent, which makes you want to taste it! It has a doe-foot applicator which glides the non-sticky gloss on nicely and without fuss. It contains honey nectar which means that it feels nourishing and doesn’t dry your lips.

IMG_0365

The packaging, is not innovative but it is slim and light which is what you really want for throwing in your clutch on a night out. The lid allows seems to fit on well and nice and tight- so leakage is hopefully unlikely!

I picked this up in Superdrug for £6.19 but while preparing this post I found it on sale at Fragrance Direct for £1.99, not used this website before though- have you? I have seen lots of other bloggers hauls from it recently.

I will  be picking up this lipgloss in another colour, just have to decide which one!

Any plans for Valentines tomorrow? I have a wee date with the boyfriend planned, dinner and hopefully a drinkies.

BADgal Lash Mascara by Benefit Review

Badgal Lash

Badgal Lash Wand

BADgal Lash by Benefit is my current favourite mascara and has been for a while.  I have tried other things in between purchases but I have always come back to it. Basically, it just makes my lashes look great. It has a a lovely big brush which applies with no clumps and little fuss, which is what I need to ensure I make it out the door on time. It separates my lashes nicely while  adding volume and length with a beautiful jet black.  It works well for work  while an extra coat makes it perfect for evening/party time.

I wear glasses and feel it works well with them, false lash effect type mascaras are a bit much I find  and make my lashes touch the lens. BADgal Lash is just the write combo of full lashes that are glasses friendly.

IMG_0335

Other reviews I have read of this product have found that it flakes/smudges easily but this hasn’t been my experience, it has always lasted the day. It is also quite easy to take off with make-up remover which is wonderful after a late night.

Sadly, the one downside of this mascara is the price, it is expensive at £17.50 a pop. I would recommend keeping an eye on the House of Fraser brand sale, as Benefit is often included and I saved a few £ on my last purchase thanks to this.

What is your favourite mascara?

I now have a facebook page,  I would love it if you checked it out.
