BADgal Lash Mascara by Benefit Review

Badgal Lash

Badgal Lash Wand

BADgal Lash by Benefit is my current favourite mascara and has been for a while.  I have tried other things in between purchases but I have always come back to it. Basically, it just makes my lashes look great. It has a a lovely big brush which applies with no clumps and little fuss, which is what I need to ensure I make it out the door on time. It separates my lashes nicely while  adding volume and length with a beautiful jet black.  It works well for work  while an extra coat makes it perfect for evening/party time.

I wear glasses and feel it works well with them, false lash effect type mascaras are a bit much I find  and make my lashes touch the lens. BADgal Lash is just the write combo of full lashes that are glasses friendly.

Other reviews I have read of this product have found that it flakes/smudges easily but this hasn’t been my experience, it has always lasted the day. It is also quite easy to take off with make-up remover which is wonderful after a late night.

Sadly, the one downside of this mascara is the price, it is expensive at £17.50 a pop. I would recommend keeping an eye on the House of Fraser brand sale, as Benefit is often included and I saved a few £ on my last purchase thanks to this.

What is your favourite mascara?

I now have a facebook page,  I would love it if you checked it out.

Drugstore Make-up Haul

Popped into the shops for a peek at the weekend only to be suckered in my the various deals at Boots and Superdrug- before I knew it I had a lovely collection of new products escorting me home. Grabbed a few products that the blogging world is raving about and a few other pretty things that caught my eye.

Eyeshadow HaulFirst up, eye shadows, it was buy1get1half price on No7 so I picked up their Trio Eye Shadow Palette, Good Earth and the single Matte Maroon. It has been a while since I have used No7 and one of their eye shadow trios used to be a favourite so looking forward to playing with these. Nice neutral colours in the trio, one with a bit of shimmer, all compact together for easy travel if needed. Think adding the Matte Maroon with the trio will create a fab smokey eye.

Maybelline Color Tattoo in On & On Bronze: You will have no doubt read the countless reviews on this as well, figured I’d find out  what all the fuss  is about.

In terms of lips I picked up:

Maybelline Baby Lips in Peach Kiss:  Another one I decided to jump on the bandwagon with. When I tried it out boyfriend said whooo peach, so the scent has received the kiss of approval.

Maybelline Colorsensational Shine Gloss in Berry, Not usually the colour I am drawn to but it swatched really nice and there was an offer on Maybelline products. Have been wearing it quite a bit since I bought it so will be a full review soon.

L’oreal Glam Shine Satin Splash: I have wanted to try these for a while, since a few folks suggested they were dupes for a similar YSL lip product. Went for quite a natural colour so can wear for work.

Finally, I got a free lipstick voucher through my Boots advantage card after my last purchase at Clinique so got the Long Last Lipstick in All heart, as I said don’t usually go for red lips so will be a bit different for me.

New make-up brushes

If you caught my last post you will know I love my RealTechniques Powder brush, so when I saw that Superdrug had the range at Buy1get1halfprice, I decided to add to my collection. Picked up the Shading brush and Blush brush. My first impression? They are both fab!

L’Oreal le blush in Sandalwood Rose; felt I should get a new blush to go with my new brush! Recommended for fair skin tones, this a lovely pink shade. Also, I have just discovered there is a wee compartment underneath the blush with a brush and more importantly a mirror- fab extra for make-up on the go

Maybelline Baby Skin, I know another hyped up product but all you bloggers made me buy it! I love my Benefit Porefessional, but a cheaper alternative would be good for my wallet so decided to give it a go. I will report back!

Botanics Hydrating Eye Cream– have been thinking that perhaps I should start worrying about taking better care of my eye areas, sooner I start operation no-wrinkles the better? This one promises a nourishing cream that hydrates and reduces the appearance of fine lines to reveal more radiant skin.

Finally, I picked up on nail polish Maybelline Color Show in Burgundy Kiss which is actually a gift for a friend. She is usually drawn to dark navy/blacks and I thought a dark maroon would be something a wee bit different but in keeping with what she likes

Let me know if you hit the shops this weekend, what was your top buy? Comment below or tweet me!

P.S If you need ideas of valentines, I have been pinning away cute things on my Pinterest board.

realTechniques Powder Brush: Review

Powder Brush

The RealTechniques Powder Brush is the latest addition to my brush collection and I thought I would do a short review for you. There are so many brushes on the market at different price points and it can be a challenge to decide which ones can do what you need within your budget.

I would love to have a shiny matching set of brushes but I just can’t justify the spend all at once, as a result of  brush collection is a mis-match of brands and quality, that I have added to keep up with my expanding collection of cosmetics.

RealTechniques Powder Brush

Basics of the Brush

  • The brush is made by Sam Chapman (pixiwoo) who you may have seen on YouTube
  • It is made with sythetic bristles and promises to be 100% cruelty free.
  • It can stand on it’s end as with all the brushed in this range. So you can line them up all pretty on your dressing table if you have one (I don’t sadly).
  • The name of the brush is printed on the handle which is useful especially if you are still learning about make-up & brushes.
  • If you are new to this type of brush or just want to learn more realTechinques have a how to video on  their website.

Things I like about it

  • This brush is soooo fluffy it feels lovely to dust against your face.
  • It is a nice weight, easy to hold and grip.
  • Coverage- it picks up just the right about of product and allows you to sweep it evenly across your face. I have been using this mainly with my finishing power (current favourite is Rimmel Stay Matte) but I have also used this with my bronzer.
  • The head of the brush is nice and big which is what I want in a powder brush, I have taken a picture which it next to a Rimmel Nail  scale.

Make up brush scale photo

Overall, I am very pleased with this brush and would purchase another from the range, as I think in terms of quality vs price this brush is great.

I picked my brush up from Amazon  for £8.34+free P&P but you can purchase in lots of other places including Boots & Superdrug.

Anyway hope you enjoyed this quick review, what is your favourite make-up brush?

OOTD- Evening Wedding Invite

OOTD- wedding

This is my first outfit of the day (or should say night) post as I fancied sharing my outfit and make-up choices for a wedding I attended on Saturday.  It was an evening invite so I went for a more party look than formal wedding attire.

The dress is from New Look and is perfect for Ceilidh dancing as it catches the air in a twirl for a little flick. The black bag is from Accessorize and  has a detachable strap so it can start the night as a clutch and become a cross-body if needed for the trip home- you can also squish a pair of flats into it if needed. My scarf/wrap is a  light bird printed fabric also from Accessorize.

OOTD Jewellery

I love that weddings allow a bit of head bling and I added a small feathered hairclip from Accessorize. The silver earrings are from a lovely little Jewelers in Edinburgh called Annie Smith and I picked the bracelet up in Forever 21 awhile back

These glittery pair are from Dune and after a few nights out are finally becoming comfortable to wear- lasted the whole night of dancing with heels on!

For make-up I went with a simple look as I had knew the day of the wedding was jam packed and I would not have much time to get ready. Also as a rum tasting class was my lunchtime activity, I was a wee bit concerned I might be worse for wear come wedding time. In the end, I was very glad of my organisation and quick make-up look, as due to the onslaught of rain and the impossibility of securing a taxi  when the heavens open;  I only got home 30 minutes before I was due to be picked up for the wedding! Cue super speedy hair/make-up/dress.

For my base, I used the Benefit Porefessional Primer, followed by the YSL Touche Eclat foundation,  YSL Touche Eclat under the eyes and my Rimmel Stay Matte Powder to set. Added my Bodyshop Bronzer in light matte to finish off. For eyes I used my YSL Pure Chromatics palette which gave a lovely sophisticated shimmer to my party look. Mascara was my favourite Badgal Lash from Benefit, as along with making my lashes look great it can be relied upon to last all night. As I wear dark-framed glasses I tend to hold back on eyeliner (as my eyes are already well framed) but added a bit of my Bobbi Brown Creamy Eye Pencil in Jet to my top & bottom waterlines. Lips I used Rimmel Electric Plum Lipstick and ended up topping with my mini Urban Decay lipgloss (the one you get with the Naked 2 palette- perfect small bag extra) on the way out the door.

On my nails I went for glitter from OPI’s Mariah Carey collection-popped a picture on Instragram if you fancy a nosey.

The wedding itself was lovely, beautiful venue, great band, lots of dancing, good friends and a very happy newly married couple. Also no hangover the next day which was rather nice- bad for my wallet though as I ended up going shopping. Look forward to a Highstreet/drugstore haul soon as I spent rather more than I should have in both Superdrug and Boots….oops! 🙂

January Beauty Favourites

January Favourites

This is my first monthly favourites post on UmbrellaMonday, here are my most used/most love products. I could have included a lot more thanks to lovely of additions to my collections following Christmas and a few naughty spending sprees. However, I have decided to limit myself to five, if you would like fuller reviews on any of them just let me know.

Toni&Guy Shine Gloss Serum:

I tend to be quite unadventurous with hair products as my hair is fine and I fear making it appear greasy after I have spent ages styling it. However, I decided to take a chance on this product though and glad I did.  It promises to control frizz and offer shine, both of which it does.  It gives my hair the closest to a ‘just been to the hairdresser shine’ that I have been able to create with a high street product.

Tangle Teezer Orginal PinkFizz

Tangle Teezer, Original Pink Fizz:

This was a stocking filler from my boyfriend this Christmas. I had wanted one of these for a while, as I felt my hair was breaking too much with my old brush and had heard good reviews about this one.  I wouldn’t say I have very tangled hair, but I think this glides through with less pulling and breaking than my old brush. It is available in an array of different colours ( Another plus is it is much handier to pack in my toiletry bag than my old massive paddle brush.

Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion + :

This is the first high end moisturizer I have purchased. It is expensive but formation means you only need a little per application so it will last a good while- (I have had this 3weeks and only about 1/5 has been used). It is a silkier consistency then brands I have used and it glides easily into the skin leaving it soft. I have been using this twice a day and have really noticed a difference and my make up looks better as a result (yay!).

OPI Unfor-greta-bly Blue

Unfor-reta-bly blue by OPI:

OPI is one of my favourite nail polish brands- it is quite expensive for nail polish and I find it hard to get in the UK, so I tend to only pick it up in airports or on holiday. This shade is a wonderful dark blue with a shine which is not quite navy. Great colour which suits both a Professional office environment and a pretty sparkly dress! If any UK folks have any tips about where to pick up OPI polish please let me know!

Hello Flawless Foundation

Hello Flawless Foundation Oxygen Wow:

My new go to foundation- I just did a full review of this so won’t dwell on this product long.  Been wearing this every day since I got it so had to include it in my monthly favourites.
