NOTD: Get your Glitter on?

Nails, Manicure

Elizabeth Street by Nails Inc has been sitting unused in my drawer for a while and I rediscovered it while digging around for Fall colours. I don’t usually go for pinky nude type polishes but thought I would give this one ago. This is a soft light pink, that your could wear very sheer or with a couple coats it is a pretty pink toned colour. It was not the best to apply though, some nails needed 3 coats for me to get an even finish but it has lasted well.

As I was having a lazy day, I decided to be creative and add a glittery top. I was drawn to the Barry M’s Pink Sapphire Glitter in the store over a year ago, but I have never really liked it on my nails as it it hard to apply well.  It is made up of confetti type glitter in pink, silver and white of various sizes.

What do you think of the combo? I can’t decide! The glitter makes it less sophisticated than without but more fun?

Pretty in Pink Nails

Pretty in Pink Nails

I have been loving pink nails as summer turns to autumn. These are my top 3 pink nail polish from my collection. They are maybe more summery than September allows but I am not ready for the colder weather and dark nights!

Chanel in 535 May: Chanel nail polish is an indulgence, this one was a gift from my boyfriend, don’t know if I would pay full whack myself. Saying that I love this colour, it is the softest pink of the 3 and it feels so ladylike and elegant to wear.

Essie in Lovie Dovie With the best name of the bunch, this is a vibrant girly pink which gives a rich colour in two coats. It feels fun to wear and perfect for those last couple days of sunshine.

I was really impressed by the wear time on this polish and found the application really good.

No7 in Pink Grapefruit A hot pink colour which I love on my toes. Wear time is average.

Will be breaking out the darker fall colours soon though!.

Urban Decay All Nighter- Make- up Setting Spray Review

Urban Decay Finishing Spray- Long Lasting

Urban Decay Long Lasting Setting Finishing Spray, promises to make my make- up last all night.  I have seen setting sprays over the years and always thought they were a extra ‘fancy’ step in make- up routines of beauty gurus that wasn’t really needed. However, I hate getting home from a night out or a long day, going to remove my foundation and finding there is hardly anything left to take off, so I decided to enter the world of finishing sprays and see what happened.

I did a bit of research and decided to try this one, I have not had much experience with Urban Decay, I have Naked 1 & 2- which I love,  but have tried nothing else. (I have been hearing a lot of chatter about the Naked concealer though- has anyone tried that?)

The packaging is simple and practical, although quite large which is good and bad- lots of product but not handy for travel. To use you just spray from about 8-10 inches away in a ‘X’ and/or ‘T’ shape, with one spritz per axis.  It is very wet when you spray and it is kinda weird to be honest- much more liquid than  the mist I expected. My first reaction was to look in the mirror to see where my make up had been smudged by it- the answer none of it moved!

It dries really quickly, I had originally wanted the ‘Cooling and Hydrating’ version but when I swatched  at the counter, I found that it took a long time to dry while the ‘All Nighter’ melted to feel like nothing on your skin in seconds.

Was it worth it? This is the only setting spray I have ever tried but….. it did make me make-up last longer as promised.

I would not say that this is an essential step in the make up routine but it is a nice add on, with little time or effort for a good pay off. The product is expensive but I feel given that you use so little each time it will last a while.  Had anyone else tried it?

High Street Make-up Haul

Make up Haul

Make up palettes and blushers galore! I had a day off on Friday and had a desire to go crazy make-up shopping for the first time in a while.

I got new glasses last week and since I started to wear them I have been more aware then ever of my eyebrows and the need to do more with them. So the Sleek Brow kit was on my shopping list as it is a dupe for the Benefits one and I wanted to try something new but with a friendlier price tag.

I also picked up 3 eye shadow palettes. Lately I have felt like I don’t have any day time eye-shadows that I love, all my favs have been super pretty but shimmery night out colours. I am hoping that these 3 can become work day staples. I picked the MUA Elysium Palatte, which I think is a dupe for Naked 3. I have had a quick play with it and really like the pinky toned colours so far. Although some may be a bit to shimmery for work but I cant be all work now can I!

MUA Elysium Palette

Also got the Make up Revolution Redemption Palette Essential mattes palette. As it says on the the tin- no shimmer in sight! Third is the Sleek Au Natural 601 with 12 neutral shades, some with shimmer most with out, I think this is my least favourite of the three I picked up but I will report back.

Picked up two blushes, did an audit of my blusher stash recently and noticed that I mostly have pink shades and really wanted to try so more coral coloured one. The Revlon, Classy Coral got the honour of being my first coral shade. Also grade a Makeup revolution blush in Treat as it was only £1!

Rimmel Coral Blush

Repurchased the Rimmel Stay Matter powder as it is brilliant and so affordable! Only thing I do wish is that it had a mirror so could be taken out and about more easily. Finally,  I really wanted a new concealer, with base type products I am pretty unadventurous but after quite a bit of research on the bloggersphere I chose the Maybelline, the Eraser Eye in light.

Drugstore Haul

I know what you are thinking, I thought UmbrellaMonday was on a spending ban, and you would be right, I just had a few moments of weakness, and it was my birthday weekend so thought what the hey I’m gonna treat myself. And I could have gone ALOT more crazy….so you could say this is really proof of my self restraint…. : )

It all started with a trip to  Boots pick up a Sleek blusher but the store in town doesn’t have a stand for them, so ended up browsing what else was on offer. Picked up a few things from brands I rarely buy from.

Grabbed the Collection Bronze Glow Ultimate. I am naturally very pale so always been a little scared of bronzer, as in the past they have been far too dark for my skin. As such I have been very loyal to my BodyShop Bronzer since I discovered it offer lighter shade options. Anyhoo I swatched this in store and am hopeful it will give the sunkissed glow promised.

Next, I grabbed a few Revlon products, I wanted Colourburst Lacquer Balm and after much deliberation picked 105 which is a lovely soft/subtle pink. It was two products for £10 in Boots, so I figured I might as well get something else. Picked up Revlon Lash Potion, Mascara, which should have been £9.99 so bargain to get it for just a few pounds. I haven’t opened this yet as few mascara on the go I want to finish, but will let you know how I get on when I do.

I also popped to the Yankee Candle Store as I wanted some scented tea lights- went for Summer Scoop which is lovely Strawberries and Cream scent- perfect for summer. I wanted the tea lights as I picked up the cutest set of 4 Sherry Glasses for £3 in a charity shop  which will make the nicest candle holders. Tried them out this evening and  they look fab on my mantle-place, they will look even better come the dark winter nights.

Talking of charity shop finds, I also found a total bargain of a dress. Brand new with tags navy blue lace party dress from Dorothy Perkins for only £6! I shared a pic on instagram (Umbrellamonday is my user name) if you fancy a noisy.

What have you been buying lately? Are a charity shop bargain lover too?

Umbrella Monday Chats #2

Pride & Prejudice Quote Frame

Hello again, I’m back for a quick weekly catch up. Last week started off the with watching the Queens Baton Relay pass through town, really looking forward to the Commonwealth Games, I loved attending the Olympics so high hopes for Glasgow 2014.

Rest of my week was quite quiet, on Friday night I went to an Art exhibition with my friend, all very cultural and sophisticated- lots of free fizz too! I fell in love with one of the paintings, far out of my price range though. I wish I was one of those people who had money to spend of fabulous art…maybe if I spent less on make-up! : )

It was my birthday at the weekend, so a year older and all that. Had tea with my family one night- Thai food which I love. Then on Sunday an afternoon cocktail (or two) with the girls before meeting the boyfriend off his plane for a fancy tea for two. I was a very lucky girl and got some lovely gifts, I did pop a few pictures on Instagram (see sidebar) if you follow me there. The above picture is from one of the awesome homemade gifts my friends made me, framed Jane Austen quotes. I had seen similar on Etsy that I wanted and they decided to make for me.

I have never done this before but I was thinking of having a guest post (or two) on my blog at the end of the month. We could perhaps do a blog post exchange or something similar. Is anyone interested?

Finally my cat wanted to say hello! (excuse the phone photo)

NOTD: Essie Naughty Nautical

Essie Naughty Nautical

I am in love with Essie nail polish at the moment, the last few colours I have bought in particular are so lovely and lasted ages on the nail. Essie’s Naughty Nautical has been on my nails for my birthday weekend, it is lovely lagoon/mermaid green with a hint of shimmer. It paints on well and still looks great which is a miracle for me as I seem to chip my polish so easily.

Off out for a birthday cocktail with my friends shortly, then dinner with the boyfriend, should be a good day!

What’s on your nails at the moment?
